Insurance Validation Program
Making sure mandatory insurance coverage is in place.
Understanding digital insurance validation
Our digital Insurance Validation Program is currently used by Ontario and Newfoundland and Labrador governments to confirm that mandatory insurance coverage is in place.
This secure, efficient and convenient digital database:
verifies a vehicle identification number (VIN) matches the registration information on file, and
confirms that mandatory auto insurance coverage has been purchased
Through IBC, the property and casualty insurance industry partners with some provinces to provide real-time confirmation of mandatory insurance coverage. This system helps to ensure that everyone on the roads in these provinces is protected in the event of a collision.
For specific information about your province’s licence plate renewal process, contact your local Ministry of Transportation.
If you experience an issue when renewing your vehicle plate that is related to your insurance coverage, contact your insurance representative.
IBC members can learn more about IVP via IBC's secure member site.
