How does Facility Association work?
Facility Association guarantees the availability of car insurance to those eligible to obtain it. Most drivers are able to find insurance through an individual insurance company in the competitive market, but some may find it difficult because of:
A poor driving record or no driving record at all
Recent or multiple claims
The make, model or type of vehicle you own or drive
How you use your vehicle
A history of payment problems
A combination of the above
Facility Association doesn’t issue insurance policies – rather, it works with specific insurance companies that issue policies, collect premiums and handle claims on its behalf.
Where does Facility Association operate?
Facility Association operates in these provinces and territories:
Alberta
New Brunswick
Newfoundland and Labrador
Northwest Territories
Nova Scotia
Nunavut
Ontario
Prince Edward Island
Yukon
Facility Association does not operate in these four provinces:
British Columbia
Manitoba
Québec
Saskatchewan
What does Facility Association cost?
Because of the types of risks typically insured through Facility Association, premiums are generally higher than in the competitive marketplace. If you’re currently insured through Facility Association, continue to shop around for your car insurance. Talk to your insurance representative about how you can potentially pay less.
Who runs Facility Association?
Facility Association is an entity established by the automobile insurance industry to ensure that automobile insurance is available to all owners and licensed drivers of motor vehicles when such owners or drivers are unable to obtain automobile insurance from an individual insurance company in the competitive market. Facility Association is funded by the compulsory membership of all automobile insurers in all of the provinces or territories Facility Association serves.
Facility Association’s mission is to deliver on its purpose through the efficient administration of automobile insurance residual market mechanisms; and by providing valued information to its members. Facility Association strives to enhance market stability through minimizing its market presence and impact, in an effort to provide consumers with the benefits of a healthy and competitive standard insurance market.
